One of many now legendary bottlings by Julian Van Winkle III's Commonwealth Distillery Co, this rare bourbon was bottled in Lawrenceburg in 1994. It is one of a handful of batches filled at cask proof for the Japanese market and labelled under the fictional branding of the Society of Bourbon Connoisseurs.
It is believed this bourbon was sourced from Boone distillery, where it was barrelled in 1974. Used for a number of releases by Van Winkle, it was bottled twice as the Van Winkle Family Reserve and also as the earlier Pappy Van Winkle 20 Year Olds around the same time as this. Those releases were also intended for the Japanese market where they were at the time more willing to pay premium prices for well-aged bourbon.
These original bottles of Boone-distilled Van Winkle whiskies are incredibly rare and sought after in equal measure.
